Paint-thinners - down, down, down the drain you go
Today we ventured further, to Williamson's Park. M**** feeling all the better for it. Erm . . . the seemingly eternal construction of black-out shutters for A******'s bedroom continues . . . five wooden panels that need cutting to shape (done), primer (three/four of five done), undercoat (ditto), and then glossing, white on one side (three of five done) and blue on the other (none done). These things are necessary as the black-out lining we had bought for his curtains have been gradually falling apart and the foil we've been using as a temporary measure, likewise. So, erm . . . where was I? Was I anywhere? Hello? Paint-thinners? Oh yes, I pour 'em down the sink. Is that wrong? Am I killing fish and other fishy things with my lackadaisical approach to the disposal of white spirit? Wretched stuff that it is, white spirit, but it's the only way of cleaning gloss off my brushes, you know?

  • Comment: Gosh that sounds serious... Laurel also has blackout lining issues at the moment involving some perfectly fine blackout liners which are completely the wrong size and attached to the walls with rather a lot of drawing pins.

Part of me thinks that a bit of light never hurt anyone and doesn't get what all the fuss is about... Then again I could really do with some proper curtains in my own bedroom as I keep waking up at 6am...

  • Comment: See, they have wooden shutters over in France and places, so why not here? I remember at your place in Tressan how effective they were in stopping the light. And I don't like temporary measures involving foil, drawing pins, gaffer tape and stuff like that (which I'm having to resort to). So yeah . . . wooden shutters it is. Otherwise, like you, A****** would be up at 6am or probably a lot earlier.
