Above are various pictures taken during our walk around what I think is called Winder. Something like that. James and I drove over to Sedbergh, had lunch at the Dalesman and then went for a leisurely walk, vaguely using a path from my 'Yorkshire Dales Walks' book. Time was limited, though, so we just went up Winder and pretty much down again. Gorgeous day though, as I think these pictures testify. Not sure what the horses were doing up there, but hey . . .
The above sequence of shots were taken using the stitch-assist mode, in order to vaguely form some kind of 2π radian panoramic thing.
I think the title of this entry and the pictures speak for themselves. A****** starting to get a little bit cold by the time we reached Winnie the Pooh.
I think today was the day we went to this Pennywell Farm thing. I forgot my camera. Ah well. Later on that night, we got a jig-saw finished (wasn't much of a challenge that one).
Yeah, so . . . M**** was trying to find this place she vaguely remembered from when she last visited the area some, erm . . . 13 years ago, or thereabouts. She reckoned it was somewhere down from Slapton but wasn't sure exactly where. So, we visited Beesands and then made the perilous journey to Hallsands and were quite intrigured by what we found there, purely by accident. I say perilous as the road down to Hallsands was single-track, badly surfaced and very, very steep. Plus, loads of new buildings have recently been put up (and may still be being put up) and so all these construction vehicles must have likewise had to go up and down this same road. Fortunately we met no other traffic arriving or leaving. That last picture there is something/someone from the Eurovision Song Contest. I voted Norway, 'cos I really thought it was the best of a bad bunch.
So yes . . . today I was back to work, the two week holiday over. The boys were playing up, messing about, so M**** took them to the shops, hoping to buy the ingredients for fairy cakes (or whatever they're called). On the way there, A****** somehow managed to trip over R******'s push-chair, falling onto the pavement, grazing his left elbow and getting a tiny little stone lodged into his arm in the process. Nice. I popped back to try to tweezer the thing out but A****** was making too much of a fuss. I dunno whether you can just leave these things in and let nature do its work or what . . . M**** rang the doctor's surgery for advice and they just told her to bring A****** in at 17:30. With the area suitably numbed via some magical local anaesthetic lotion, the doctor managed to pull the stone out, although it was quite deeply embedded and took a bit of a poke around to get out. But A****** didn't put up too much of a fuss, bless him.
I probably should write more about the above, the wedding, but I'm just amazed by ScooterMan (see last pictures). He'll pick up your car from wherever, fold his little scooter thingy into your boot, drive you wherever you want, then re-build his scooter and disappear into the night. How cool's that? Oh, and the Chinese lanterns were pretty cool too . . . the source of many UFO sightings, no doubt.
