£349.99 for a child's bike?!

Hey, free advert for Isla Bikes - islabikes.co.uk. Isla Bikes came up recently in a conversation with M****, in relation to a previous conversation she had had with Dawn and Annie. Then I noticed that Rob had mentioned this company previously. So, erm . . . let's have a look. Oh looky here - a bike suitable for A****** and only £349.99! Hey, but don't worry. It's an investment, see. An investment for a year, after which he'll need a new one, the Beinn 26 small, again ONLY £349.99! He'll probably NEED the Beinn 26 large when he reaches 11; again, only £349.99 (so that's only £1,049.97 worth of bikes over a four year period). So that got me thinking . . . what justification is there for ever spending so much on bikes for your children? I think we came up with two possibilities: a lot of disposable income OR children who are destined for a life in competitive-level cycling. Argos sell children's bike for about £120 that will last for many years (or check out this bad boy - a steal at only £100). So what am I missing here? What am I not getting?

- Comment: You can pick up the Beinn 24 on eBay for about £225 (average), so these things obviously keep their value pretty well. The Beinn 26 is a little more, around the £260 mark. Either way, once your child's grown out of it, you sell it on eBay, and you're only about £150 down per bike. That's not bad.
