Today was a day designated as 'M**** needs to get some work done'; proper work, as in towards an NVQ. So . . . me and the boys made ourselves scarce. The plan was to leave at 10am, but it ended up being more like 10:25, such are my skills at packing and getting ready to leave the house. I programmed into the sat nav roughly where I thought M********'s Coppice should be, but didn't tell the boys where we were going. The notion of 'Go Ape' was still tentative. When we got to M********'s Coppice (roughly an hour after setting off, as predicted) I told them the plan for the rest of the day, and so we spent about 20 minutes there . . . taking pictures and wandering around the banks of Coniston Water, kinda thinking, "What are all these swimmers doing?" Hundreds of swimmers . . . plus all their supporters. And then there were all these cyclists . . . loads and loads of cyclists. But, hey, it was a gorgeous day and a gorgeous part of the world, so why the hell not? The roads (often single track) were never clogged up or even approaching busy. We had lunch at the Grizedale Visitor Centre. The boys insisted on spending some of their own money on gloves and a snood (see pictures), so who was I to refuse? I just made sure they were sound purchases and kept a mental note of the money spent. Go Ape was booked in for 14:45 and we spent a little over our allotted hour going round the two courses several times. The boys loved it, as is to be expected. They both whizzed around the courses, which was fine, as we were able to go round as many times as we wanted. We probably got home some time between 17:30 and 17:45, the boys having a 'chippy tea', as M**** calls it. All good.
