Tamron? Who is Tamron?
   
New lens. No, not new lens. New lens adaptor. It arrived today, barely ordered a few days ago and shipped all the way from Illinois. How cool is that? I had to make slight adjustments to one of my scripts that generates thumbnails as . . . and here it gets weird . . . my Olympus Pen had somehow detected an 'alien' lens and decided to change the naming convention of the filenames of the pictures. No major problem, but kinda weird nonetheless. So this lens I inherited from my father. He had a few interesting looking camera lenses attached to archaic, film-based SLR cameras. With adaptor that arrived today I can attach one of these lenses to my camera and here are the results. That picture of the moon would have been impossible with the standard lens that came with the Olympus E-PL1. This lens seems to be 28 - 200mm and I'm guessing is pretty good for the long range zoom type of shot. Need to experiment more though.

Here's a belated birthday present from Rob (and family) to A******. The gift took a tortuous journey via Rob's mum's house but, as you can see, it made it here and A****** got it all together with little help from me.

Lakeland Motor Museum

Today we took Mouse and Simon towards Newby Bridge way, first to The Swan (Hotel?!) for lunch and thence to the place named in the title. It was a bit rainy, you see. Only when we left the museum did the rain stop. Grrrrrr. We went for a brief wander around Newby Bridge itself, and I think that was about it.

Onions

So, anyway, going back to a previous conversation, some time July-ish of 2010 (?! maybe) . . . why on earth can I not go to rightmove.co.uk from any of my home computers? My computer is part of the The Onion Relay between something like 11pm and 9am (cronjob stops and starts the tor service) but has exclusion rules for the Right Move servers - 213.161.94.30, 80.64.55.62 and 146.101.201.254. So what gives? I'm guessing they have some new IP addresses to add to their list, but my e-mails have gone unanswered. Of course, even when my browser is set to full stealth mode (i.e. browser within the Tor network), I still cannot go to Right Move, probably for exactly the same reason. Blah, blah, blah.

Levens

This afternoon we did meet Pop and Cathie at the Albion (Arnside) for lunch and then a walk around, erm, Levens kind of area. A lot of these weekend days seem to involve lunch somewhere followed by a walk. This walk also involved deer and some kind of bird of prey and also the failed attempt to jump start an ancient 2CV (the engine was flooded and probably various other problems). Ah well.

Meniscus
    
There's a few things going on here. First picture shows the rain having fallen on newly sealed paving stones. Exciting stuff, eh? It kind of freaked me out slightly. I was like, "What on earth is all that water doing? Doesn't it have somewhere to go?" The other four pictures are from our brief walk around Clougha. We started building a den but left it for somewhere else to contribute to (well, that's the hope anyway). Later on that afternoon, Henry came round to play with A****** and R******.

I'm liking this story about global warming. Anyone unsure about whether the planet has been getting warmer over the last, say, 50 years, ought to take a look. Of course, many questions remain: what's causing the warming, what's not causing the warming, is it natural, should we be worried, can we do anything, should we do anything, how much hotter will it get, when's the next ice age . . . ? The answers are probably: dunno, dunno, dunno, no, probably not, dunno, dunno and . . . next Tuesday?! Of course, the arguments rage on but I like to think, wrongly or not, that the planet has been in a relatively cool period during the last few hundred years, and a small temperature rise is expected and anticipated. But, hey, what do I know?

Somewhere round Arnside, I think

I'm trying to remember now . . . I think we had lunch at the Albion in Arnside and then went for a walk as suggested by Helen & Stu. We've been to Arnside (and around) many times, but never been on this walk before. I seem to recall passing a LOT of static homes. I had no idea there were so many around there.

Beetham Nursery
  
We met Liz and Max at Beetham Nursery for lunch. This place is a bit of a meeting place for the old, retired and near-dead. Everything's on one level (wheelchair access), there's a shop full of garden stuff; there's a 'nursery', full of . . . erm . . . garden stuff . . . and a café serving tea, coffee, food and stuff. What more could an old, retired, near-dead person require? So why are we here? Food at the café is good.
