img_6786.jpgWe had a bit of a revelation during dinner - R****** sat in his bouncy chair thing whilst we ate, and just made cute baby noises. Almost as if realisation dawned: "Hmmmm. I have vocal chords. My noise repertoire does not just consist of screaming and crying after all. Interesting."

  • Comment: I'm bored waiting for your 256kbps upload speed to give me the picture. Can't you migrate to a web server with an SDSL? You could leave all your scripts on it. Mine runs on a linux mainframe.

  • Comment: I don't have the time or inclination to research this, but how much would such a thing cost? At the moment, I just pay my ISP (well, and BT, for the line rental, naturally . . . and, erm . . . the electricity, of course . . . and the food to allow me to sustain myself to work to allow myself to earn the money to pay the ISP and the line rental and . . . ) and that's it. But then, the more I think about it, the more I think . . . no. I like it this way. Whenever I've accessed my web-site externally, the upload speed has never bothered me and, plus, I have 100% control over such things as advertising (there is none!), scripts, security, databases, everything. I like that. I mean, Simon, is it really that bad? Is it? Are you trying to download the full-size images here or something?

  • Comment: Well yes I was trying to download the full size pictures. Often the links to the pictures take so long to open. An SDSL costs a lot of money to rent, I mean I'm not sure how much but a lot: like £1k a month for a good one. But I use a company called streamline.net (see here http://www.streamline.net/wh.php) to host my blog which affords me all of the above. I pay £70 for two years and I have no limit on the data quantity but I can only have one domain. You can pay more for add-ons for linux SSL it's £15 per year. Anyway, whatever works best for you I guess.

  • Comment: Thanks for information, but is no good for me - I maintain several domains, this is but one of them. I often change where these domains lead to. I have to specify different ports and change the router to map the different ports to different servers, or different virtual servers or something . . . I dunno. I don't know what I'm on about, really. But mostly I don't trust them with my data and their back-up policy, security, etc. Grrrrr . . . 1GB of memory ain't enough anyway. Who are they fooling?
