Freaky, many-headed dandelion

Well, obviously, we're somewhere around Silverdale but, more importantly: what is that freaky plant in the last two pictures?! There were about five dandelion heads, all competing for resources through a single plant stem. How does that work?! But I love that about nature: if this configuration proved better at surviving and flourishing than the normal, single-headed dandelion, than this would become the norm. There's no divine intervention or higher power at work here: it's just a simple competition for resources.
